LKA 64: A possible Royal Song (zamar šarri) celebrating the Trans-Euphratian Victories of Aššurnaṣirpal II’s 9th Campaign

The paper edits, translates and comments on LKA 64, a royal hymn from the reign of Aššurnaṣirpal II that deals with the only trans-Euphratian military campaign of this king. Furthermore, it analyses the narratological setup of the text in minute detail and compares the results to the poetics of LKA 64’s Middle Assyrian predecessor LKA 63 from the reign of Tiglath-Pileser I. Royal literary identity under the Sargonids and the Epic of Gilgameš

The high density of intertexts lifted from the epic of Gilgameš in the corpus of Sargonid royal narrative texts is unprecedented in Assyrian literary history Following Kenneth Gergen’s works on narrativity and identity building, this paper understands these programmatic innovations as deliberate attempts by the Sargonids to reformulate royal identity By employing a concise methodology for intertext analysis based on the works of Gérard Genette, this paper shows how two prominent Sargonid texts, the king’s report “Sargon’s Eight Campaign” (TCL 3) and the inscription Esh 1, have used allusion to the Gilgameš epic to inscribe the figure of the Assyrian king into a literary world similar that of the legendary king of Uruk This process peaks in a literary emulation of Assyrian kingship with the kingship of Gilgameš under Esarhaddon The paper closes with a short survey on other Gilgameš-related elements in Sargonid Assyria and some concluding thoughts on the “expansion of the narrative borders” of Assyrian royal identity.Peer reviewe

Reform of Income Splitting for Married Couples: Only Individual Taxation Significantly Increases Working Incentives

The joint taxation of married couples in Germany with full income splitting is still a major hindrance to the participation of married women in the labor market. In their current financial proposals, the SPD (Social Democratic Party) is calling for income splitting for married couples to be replaced by individual taxation with maintenance deductions, in accordance with existing schemes for divorced spouses. Simulations implemented by DIW Berlin show that such a reform would only have limited effects on distribution and labor supply. Pure individual taxation, however, would not only lead to significant additional tax revenue but would also considerably increase the number of married women participating in the labor market. If politicians take the goal of greater integration of married women in the labor market seriously, then the current income splitting for married couples would have to be replaced by individuation taxation.Working incentives, joint taxation of couples, female labor supply

Methoden und Ansätze für die Entwicklung und den Test prädiktiver Fahrzeugregelungsfunktionen

In dieser Arbeit werden das aktuelle Vorgehen und die Prozesse in der automobilen Produktentwicklung sowie die etablierten Methoden für die Entwicklung, Verifikation und Validierung von Fahrzeugregelungsfunktionen analysiert. Dem wird eine Taxonomie und Analyse aktueller Serienanwendungen und Forschungskonzepte gegenüber gestellt. Ziel ist es, durch eine ganzheitliche Betrachtung die aktuellen Rahmenbedingungen und Herausforderungen bei der Entwicklung innovativer Funktionen für die Automatisierung der Fahraufgabe zu identifizieren. Auf dieser Grundlage wird ein neuartiges Konzept für die Entwicklung und den Test prädiktiver Fahrzeugregelungsfunktionen erarbeitet. Das Kernstück des entwickelten Konzepts stellt die Reactive-Replay Methode dar. Sie ermöglicht eine enge Verzahnung von Erprobungsfahrten in der realen Welt mit der Ausführung der entwickelten Fahrzeugfunktion innerhalb einer Simulationsumgebung. Die adaptive Wiedergabe von während der Erprobung aufgezeichneten Daten des fahrzeuginternen Kommunikationsnetzes ermöglicht einen nahtlosen Übergang von der realen Welt im Fahrzeug in die Simulation im Büro. Auf diese Weise können in der Realität aufgetretene Situationen und Szenarien detailliert und unter Laborbedingungen untersucht und für Tests wiederverwendet werden. Darüber hinaus ermöglicht dieser Ansatz eine effiziente Generierung valider Testszenarien, die durch ihre Vielfältigkeit und Varianz zu einer verbesserten Testabdeckung beitragen. Um die entwickelte Methode systematisch in den produktiven Alltag der Funktionsentwicklung zu integrieren, wird ein schlankes, iteratives Vorgehen zur prozessualen Integration der Reactive-Replay Methode vorgeschlagen. Die Verifikation in der Simulationsumgebung wird so mit der Validierung in der Fahrzeugerprobung gekoppelt. Dies unterstützt die frühzeitige und durchgängige Qualitätsbewertung der entwickelten Fahrzeugfunktion. Reform des Ehegattensplittings: nur eine reine Individualbesteuerung erhöht die Erwerbsanreize deutlich

Die gemeinsame Besteuerung von Ehepartnern im Rahmen des Ehegattensplittings ist nach wie vor ein großes Hemmniss der Erwerbsbeteiligung von verheirateten Frauen am Arbeitsmarkt in Deutschland. In ihrem aktuellen Finanzkonzept fordert die SPD, das Ehegattensplitting durch eine Individualbesteuerung mit Unterhaltsabzug zu ersetzen, entsprechend den bereits geltenden Regelungen für geschiedene Eheleute. Simulationsrechnungen des DIW Berlin zeigen, dass eine solche Reform nur geringe Verteilungs- und Arbeitsangebotseffekte hätte. Highly dynamic robotic leg for non-biomimetic walking robots

Due to a predisposition of DNA to generate symmetric anatomy, there are no tripedal animals in nature. Yet, threelegged walking might be the sweet spot between the energy efficiency of bipeds and the stability of quadrupeds. This paper presents the non-biomimetic leg for the TriPed, a novel three-legged mobile walking robot that aims to study the advantages and disadvantages of three-legged walking. We showcase its new non-biomimetic leg design that allows for fast repositioning by keeping the leg mass close to the body. This is done using physical experiments as well as a simscape simulation. Sulphite dioxide reduction in wine ::management and control of oxygen added during bottling

Sulphur dioxide (SO2) antiseptic and antioxidant role allows it to preserve the wine from oxygen’s negative effects. However, its use is increasingly challenged by the concerns of consumers and producers who want to limit the chemical inputs in wines. During winemaking, many stages can lead to a transfer of oxygen to the wine. Bottling is crucial. In order to limit oxygen addition to the wine, various inerting devices have been developed by manufacturers. The first part of this work aims to understand the influence of bottle inerting sequence, rate work and pressure of inert gas, on the amount of oxygen in the bottle before filling. The results indicate that the level of oxygen brought to the wine depends on the settings implying to adapt them specifically to each bottling setup. Once inerted, the bottles are filled and corked. The influence of the filling nozzle and of the inerting devices on the oxygen addition was studied. The amount of oxygen brought to the wine during bottling was significantly reduced by the use of inerting devices. The influence of the filling nozzle and the setting conditions used was also highlighted. Thus, good management of oxygen addition requires the mastery of the bottling chain

Fedtsyreprofilen i mælk fra malkekøer – Potentiale og perspektiver

Projektet SOBcows har i samarbejde med RYK gennem 16 måneder i 2015/16 analyseret for indholdet af 11 fedtsyrer/fedtsyregrupper i kontrolmælken fra alle ydelseskontrollerede køer i Danmark. Dataanalyser af godt 3,5 mio. mælkeprøver viser, at det er muligt at påvirke sammensætning af mælkefedtet gennem avl. En foreløbig beregning af arvbarheden hen over laktationen viser, at alle fedtsyrekategorier har en genetisk variation og enkeltfedtsyrerne har arvbarheder på højde med den samlede fedtydelse. Det betyder arvbarheder i intervallet 0,25-0,44 afhængig af race og paritet. De genetiske sammenhænge varierer betydeligt gennem laktationen og er påvirket af den øgede kropsmobilisering i de første måneder efter kælvning. En anvendelse af fedtstyrebestemmelserne i avlen vil derfor kræve en opdeling af laktationen i mindst to perioder. Samlet kan det konkluderes, at der er et betydeligt avlsmæssigt potentiale, og hvis der kommer et dansk marked for mælkeprodukter med særlige egenskaber, vil det være oplagt at ændre genetikken i gunstig retning og samtidigt udnytte de fodringsmæssige muligheder for at producere mælk med en sundhedsfremmende fedtsyreprofil.
